The
principle organization responsible establishing the standards under which
acupuncture is used in addiction treatment is the National
Acupuncture Detoxification Association (NADA). NADA was founded in 1985
by Michael O. Smith, MD, Director of the Lincoln Recovery Center in New
York, and provides ethical standards for the treatment delivery as well
as training for practitioners and support for treatment programs through
its network of Registered Trainers. NADA also provides technical assistance
on State legislation governing the practice, and the NADA Clearinghouse
has an extensive catalogue materials in their online bookstore.
